Hayao Miyazaki is not the only Japanese anime director! 3 noteworthy Japanese anime filmmakers

Japan is now producing anime films that excel even Disney!? Famous among these are needless to say are Ghibli productions by Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. But did you know that Japan boasts other brilliant anime directors who are gaining a lot of attention around the world?

Director Mamoru Hosoda received high praise from both within Japan and overseas following the release of his first independent production ‘The girl who leapt through time’. He followed that success with ‘Summer Wars’, firmly establishing himself as a prominent anime director. And became an undeniable force in the Japanese anime world with his third and self-proclaimed best production, ‘Wolf Children, Ame and Yuki’, making 4200000000 JPY. ‘The Boy and the Beast’ has also been hugely popular and is gaining a lot of attention.

Oshii is an internationally renowned anime filmmaker who has worked with Ghibli’s Hayao Miyazaki. He is incredibly talented, and the saying that ‘100 people may watch Hayao Miyazaki’s films once, but 1 person watches Mamoru Oshii’s film 100 times’ has been coined. In particular, his Ghost in the Shell Series was widely popular and well received. He is a filmmaker that we can expect a lot more from in the future.

Coming to this profession form the gaming world, Director Makoto Shinkai has achieved admirable success. So far he has captivated audiences with scenes created with delicate and beautiful visuals, for stories with adolescent protagonists; for example, ‘Voices from a Distant Star’, ‘The Place Promised in Our Early Days’, ’5 Centimeters Per Second’ and so on. There are absolutely no Sci-Fi or action etc in these works, thus providing rare depictions of real modern day life. A brand new

release in August 2016 tells the fantastic story of the miraculous crossing of paths between a city boy and country-side girl when there is a strange occurrence due to the passing of a comet for the first time in 1,000 years.
