So popular it dominated houses across the country when first released in April of 1981, the ‘Dr. Slump Arale chan’ television anime experienced a boom in Japan. So much so that new words dubbed as ‘Arale language’ such as ‘Nncha-!’, ‘Hoyoyo’, and ‘Kiinn’ etc were coined.
Recently, many entertainers and reader models have taken to wearing an Arale chan outfit on TV ads and on SNS.
Talent star Ami Kikuchi can be seen above wearing a hat and t-shirt and dungarees? tank-top? a la Arale-chan.
This is Instagram star Hiromi Tsuruta(@hiromi_tsuruta).
She has gone full on cosplay with this purple wig!
Ayami Nakajô appeared in a GU commercial in an Arale chan outfit.
And other characters also make an appearance! It doesn’t get any better quality than this!
But what has made Arale chan cosplay so popular all of a sudden?
Well, the thing is… this year is the 35th year since the first broadcast of Arale chan!
To mark the occasion, limited edition goods have gone on sale, along with the opening of a limited period cafe!
Arale chan is popular with boys and girls, men and women, young and old.
You can expect to see plenty more of Arale chan for next year’s Halloween cosplay lineup.
